Some Favorite Books Should Not be Revisited

It is too often a sad and unwise thing to go back and read a favorite book. Favorite books are the treasure chests of memory. Just thinking of the book evokes the place you read it, the circumstances under which it was read, the music you were listening to, and most importantly, the person you were when you read the book first. Some of these books should not be revisited. It is not wise. A book is a place after all, particularly when one is young...

This Day is All that is Good and Fair

"Finish every day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt have crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be cumbered with your old nonsense. This day is all that is good and fair. It is too dear, with its hopes and invitations, to waste a moment on yesterdays."

~Ralph Waldo Emerson

Hearts Large Enough

"How could our hearts be large enough for heaven if they are not large enough for earth? The only country I am certain of is the one here below. The only paradise I know is the one lit by our everyday sun, the land of difficult love, shot through with shadow. The place where we learn this love, if we learn it at all, shimmers behind every new place we inhabit."

~Scott Russell Sanders
